When a student showed signs of extreme distress, the Pink Hill Elementary staff sprang into action. Led by EC teacher Amy Taylor and school data manager Megan Barwick, they used CPR and the AED that all LCP schools are equipped with to stabilize the student until EMT arrived.

The subjects are two white males and two white females. The are believed to be around 18 years old. The Jones County Board of Health has passed an amended rule " Regulation of Tobacco Products in Local Government Buildings" that was adopted as an ordinance by Jones County. This ordinance goes into effect on December 1st, 2022 and prohibits the use of all tobacco products on Health Department property.
Concerned citizens met on Saturday at Pearson Park to discuss recent vandalism and the overall safety of Kinston. Local businesses and decorations at Pearson Park have been damaged, reportedly by juveniles. After discussing the incidents of vandalism, the group cleaned up the damaged property in Pearson Park.
The 8th Judicial District, which includes Greene, Lenoir and Wayne Counties, has been awarded a $700,000.00 grant by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance to operate an Adult Accountability and Recovery Court (AARC). This Court will serve persons with a substance use disorder who have related criminal charges. Participants will be given the opportunity to participate in treatment and supportive recovery services as opposed to being incarcerated.
At a recent City Council meeting, the topic of an agreement between Lenoir County and the City where the county would manage all inspections services including building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing for the city of Kinston, was tabled until the new Director of Planning assumed their new role.
On Monday, November 28th, 2022, at approximately 8:00pm, members of the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to a report of a subject that had been shot near the 1200 block of N. Independence St. Kinston, N.C. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from a multiple gunshot wounds.
Local first responders arrived at 2067 Liddell Road in Deep Run after a reported explosion. Homeowners stated they were burning in a burn barrel. Fire escaped the barrel and caught the building in the back on fire. The explosion was said to be a tire. Southwood and Deep Run Fire departments were on scene.
