Kinston Community Health Center (KCHC) is holding a resource fair Saturday, August 7th from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M., open to the whole community. It will be held in the KCHC parking lot. The KCHC will also be providing free dental screenings, COVID vaccines, and COVID testing.
The Gate Ministries of Downtown Kinston has a new addition to their leadership team. After longtime Director Donna Hardy retired, the hiring committee began their search for a new Executive Director. Not long after the search began, Michael Darnell Fields Sr. was appointed.
The Lenoir County Health Department (LCHD) is reporting 14 additional deaths in the county of residents who had tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number to 136. The 14 fatalities occurred since the last time the LCHD reported COVID-19 deaths on June 9.
After months of decline, North Carolina is experiencing a rapid increase in COVID-19 spread among those who are unvaccinated. Yesterday, 1,998 cases were reported to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and 817 people are hospitalized with 132 admitted in the past 24 hours.
Daniel Dennie, aged 16, middle linebacker, and upcoming senior at Greene Central will be going to James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to play in an All-American Bowl. The Bowl will be in January 2022.
Dakota Gray has been missing since July 24, 2021. He was last seen near the Queen Street bridge over the Neuse River. The Kinston Police Department has searched for Gray in and around the Neuse River. Gray is a 22-year-old white male with hazel eyes and brown hair. He weighs 140 lbs and stands 5'6. He has tattoos on his left forearm, chest, and left-hand knuckles. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and steel-toed boots.

After jumping out to a 4-0 lead early, the Down East Wood Ducks couldn’t hold the lead as the pitching staff surrendered seven runs between the third and fourth innings and fell 7-6 Thursday night, to the Carolina Mudcats, playing as the Carolina Micro Brews. This marks the 10th lead surrendered loss for the Wood Ducks pitching staff this season.
A scholarship that took years in the making, was recently endowed by two faculty members through the Lenoir Community College Foundation for students enrolled in the graphics program. Dwight Downie, Graphics Program Chair/Instructor and former Graphics Instructor Kelly Statum (retired 2018), primary contributors to the scholarship, made contributions over the past 30 years to establish the D. Downie and K. Statum Graphics Faculty Scholarship, for students enrolled in the graphics program.
The Lenoir County Education Foundation Superball Tournament returns in September to raise funds for grants awarded annually to Lenoir County’s public school teachers.
Zebulon, N.C. – After a 15-run performance last night, the Down East Wood Ducks split their doubleheader with the Carolina Mudcats, Wednesday night. The Wood Ducks picked up where they left off last night, with a 12-4 win in game one but were completely shut down in game two, falling 9-1.
The City of Kinston must pay $850,000 toward a $1,850,000 settlement to Howard Dudley who was indicted in 1992 on charges of first-degree sexual offense and taking indecent liberties with a minor. He was convicted after a two-day trial. The $850,000 settlement has been paid out of the General Fund. According to the FY 2021-2022 City of Kinston budget, one penny on the tax rate equates to $136,350 in the General Fund. The City of Kinston raised property taxes by $0.04 per $100 of valuation in the 2021/2022 budget.
