Search for missing person Dakota Gray continues

Dakota Gray has been missing since July 24, 2021. He was last seen near the Queen Street bridge over the Neuse River. The Kinston Police Department has searched for Gray in and around the Neuse River. Gray is a 22-year-old white male with hazel eyes and brown hair. He weighs 140 lbs and stands 5'6. He has tattoos on his left forearm, chest, and left-hand knuckles. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and steel-toed boots.

Snow Hill Primary is keeping the weekly Terrific Kid Awards going during the summer! Each teacher chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. At the end of the week, these students are presented with an award from the counselor, Mrs. McLawhorn, or an administrator and are congratulated for their hard work. Graphics scholarship endowed

A scholarship that took years in the making, was recently endowed by two faculty members through the Lenoir Community College Foundation for students enrolled in the graphics program. Dwight Downie, Graphics Program Chair/Instructor and former Graphics Instructor Kelly Statum (retired 2018), primary contributors to the scholarship, made contributions over the past 30 years to establish the D. Downie and K. Statum Graphics Faculty Scholarship, for students enrolled in the graphics program.

City of Kinston settles lawsuit with Howard Dudley for $850,000

The City of Kinston must pay $850,000 toward a $1,850,000 settlement to Howard Dudley who was indicted in 1992 on charges of first-degree sexual offense and taking indecent liberties with a minor. He was convicted after a two-day trial. The $850,000 settlement has been paid out of the General Fund. According to the FY 2021-2022 City of Kinston budget, one penny on the tax rate equates to $136,350 in the General Fund. The City of Kinston raised property taxes by $0.04 per $100 of valuation in the 2021/2022 budget.
