Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. Tina Jewell of Kinston, NC, graduated with an Associate in Arts in Liberal Studies from York County Community College.
Arendell Parrott Academy student, Killen Harper, a semi-finalist for the NCSU Park Scholarship. At graduation, Killen will have completed 11 of the 15 AP courses offered at Parrott. She is a member of APA’s SERV club.

Lenoir County’s Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma recently recognized outstanding beginning teachers in their third year of teaching for the month of October. Congratulations to Melanie Smith, teacher at South Lenoir High School, Will Kelly, teacher at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School, and Tony Kopanski, teacher at Woodington Middle School for having been chosen by their mentors.

On Monday, December 19, 2022, the Greene County Board of Education held their first meeting with its new members. As is done after every election, the board “reorganizes” itself by electing Chairman and Vice Chairman. This year was the first time in a long time that Pat Adams would not be chosen to serve as the board chair as she lost her seat in the general election.

Seven LCPS schools have won more than $40,000 in grants from the North Carolina Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council for projects that get students outside, encourage physical activity and promote environmental awareness.
