North Lenoir High School is a winner of a 2021 First in FAFSA Innovation Grant from myFutureNC, one of just five schools in the state recognized for programs that encourage students to prepare for college and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other forms that give them access to grants, scholarships, work-study programs and loans.

North Lenoir High School is being recognized for its programs to increase student completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). myFutureNC awarded the school one of its First in FAFSA Innovation Grants. By completing FAFSA, students gain access to more than $150 billion in federal aid. Aid includes grants, scholarships, loans and work-study programs.
Teams from across Lenoir County showed up ready to compete. Woodington Middle School, E.B. Frink Middle School, and Contentnea-Savannah were in attendance. From the high-schools both North Lenoir and South Lenoir competed.

One line goes up and the other goes down but taken together they represent a single trend for Lenoir County Public Schools, according to a veteran LCPS educator in a new role this year dedicated to making sure that trend continues.
For the third time in a row, an LCC Graphics student was awarded top honors in this year’s PICA (Printing Industry of the Carolinas) student competition for printing and graphics. Samuel Jarman of Trenton, NC won the top collegiate award for his digital printing and package design of a dentist-themed hidden message structural mailer.
The Lenoir County ABC Board recently presented a check of $15,000 to Lenoir Community College to assist in alcohol and drug awareness programs at the College
The College Board has designated 17 Lenoir County students attending Arendell Parrott Academy as Advanced Placement Scholars. Avery Johnson, Ashlyn Crocker, Alyssa Kim, Javier Martinez-Rodriguez, Collins Moore, Elizabeth Norris, and Matti Snyder received the AP Scholar designation for taking three or more exams with a score of 3 or higher. Laura Fern Jones and Isha Omer both achieved this honor as sophomores.
For the first time in two years, the people who drive the state’s migrant education program in eastern North Carolina gathered in person to share ideas about meeting the challenges of their work, and they gathered in Kinston.
The Greene County School Board met on September 28, 2021, at the Greene County Tech Center. The public comment section outlined the lack of sports at Greene Early College and parents' concerns with the current mask mandate. Before public comments started the Chairman, Patricia Adams asked if everyone could keep their comments/statements to three minutes.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. On Fridays, these students are presented with an award from the counselor, Mrs. McLawhorn, or an administrator and are congratulated for their hard work. This week the students and staff of Greene Early College (GEC) received some good news that made everyone feel a little better. For the past four years, GreatSchools.org has compiled a list of high schools that excel at ensuring students prepare for college, enroll in college, and succeed once they get there. This year, GEC made the list receiving the 2021 GreatSchool’s College Success-Gold award.
Randy Doss, a veteran college admissions officer and speaker at regional and national workshops, addressed 60 freshmen and parents at Parrott Academy on Monday, September 20th. With opening remarks on “what really happens in college admissions,” Doss stressed the importance of starting early in high school to build a solid foundation. He advised students to challenge themselves with rigorous courses and pay attention to what interests and motivates them. “College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won,” he stated.
Debbie Chused, member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), presented Lenoir Community College first-year Associate Degree Nursing student Yvonne Mae Dolinta with the Mina Dail Miller Scholarship.

At the September 13th Lenoir County Public Schools board meeting, Chairman Bruce Hill admonished the public on when it’s appropriate to contact a school board member. He cited a chain of command, the need to go straight to the source, and emphasized the school board’s primary goal is to be policymakers. However, Mr. Hill seemingly chastises parents, guardians, and stakeholders for attempting in any type of way to hold school board members accountable. In an eye-opening statement, Mr. Hill says about the school board, “[we] aren’t as versed in education” and “we as board members we don’t know what goes on at the schools.”
The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office was alerted a short time ago about a threat that was received by students at North Lenoir High School regarding violence that would occur today. Numerous deputies from the Sheriff's Office were sent to provide security at North Lenoir High School and to investigate the information.
