On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, shortly after 8 a.m., Officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a small wooded area between the 500 block of Beasley Street and E. Blount Street in reference to the discovery of a deceased female. The identity of the deceased has been determined to be Carolyn Ann Suggs, age 49, of Kinston, NC. The Kinston Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are actively investigating.
On August 5, 2020, at approximately 12:00 pm Deputies with the Jones County Sheriff's Office responded to 387 Lee Mills Road to serve felony arrest warrants on Donnie William Mills. When Deputies arrived at the location Mills saw the Deputies approaching and attempted to flee in a vehicle. While fleeing the scene Mills intentionally rammed a Jones County Sheriff's Office vehicle with two Deputies inside.
From the Kinston Police Department: On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, shortly after 8am, Officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a small wooded area between the 500 block of Beasley Street and E. Blount Street in reference to the discovery of a deceased female. The identity or age of the female is unknown at this time. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been assisting with the investigation. This case is early in the investigation process and will be updated as details emerge throughout the investigative process.
On July 27, patrol officers were conducting surveillance in areas targeted by copper-A/C thieves. During that time, officers conducted a traffic stop on Wayland Skinner, operating a green Ford Mustang. During the stop, officers observed multiple A/C condensers and compressors along with burglary tools. Mr. Skinner matched the description from the surveillance obtained from days prior. Mr. Skinner was taken into custody for the below larcenies that resulted in over $150,000.00 in damages.
The Kinston Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest related to a Breaking and Entering that occurred on 07/11/2020 at 1:29 a.m. on the 600 BLK of E Lenoir Ave. Kinston, NC.
Golontae Yarquez Brock was taken into custody this morning by members of the Kinston Police Department and the United States Marshal’s service at a home in Martin County. Mr. Brock was charged with Attempted Murder and five counts of Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property Causing Serious Injury. Mr. Brock was transported to the Pitt County Detention Center and held under a $1.5 million bond.
The Kinston Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the following people related to a shooting that occurred on June 25, 2020.
Kinston Police reported that for several weeks the citizens of Kinston and Lenoir County have been victimized by overnight car thefts and car break-ins. This morning around 4:15 officers responded to a call from a homeowner on the 2500 block of Hodges Road in reference to someone attempting to break into his vehicle.
On June 29th, officers located a suspect vehicle from a shooting on June 11, 2020, which occurred on Cameron Drive in Kinston. Officer initiated a vehicle stop and located three handguns and 200 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. One of the handguns was determined to be stolen from Martin County.
On June 29, 2020 at approximately 12:41 pm, officers with the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle wreck on Hwy. 11 north near Mewborn Avenue. Before officers arrived on the scene, they were advised shots had been fired at that location and some subjects had fled the scene.
In an executive order announced on Wednesday, Gov. Roy Cooper extended Phase 2 of reopening North Carolina until July 17 and made face coverings mandatory in public. The mask requirements take effect Friday, June 26 at 5 p.m. In a recent Facebook post, Jones County Sheriff Danny Heath stated, “NO, I will not be enforcing the wearing of face masks! Be careful and responsible and make your own decision.”
Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen yesterday announced that North Carolina will remain in Safer at Home Phase 2 for three more weeks. Cooper also announced that face coverings must be worn when people are in public places as officials seek to stabilize concerning trends of increasing viral spread.
RALEIGH - On Wed., June 24 at approximately 8:57 a.m., the State Highway Patrol responded to I-40 in Wake County due to several vehicles traveling at a slow rate of speed near the 298 mile marker. The vehicles in question were traveling at approximately ten miles per hour while blocking all westbound travel lanes to include the emergency lane.
On June 11, 2020, members with the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and Kinston Police Department served a search warrant at 1405 Centennial Trail Kinston, North Carolina. The search warrant was the result of an ongoing joint investigation between the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and Kinston Police Department Narcotics Units. Detectives arrested four subjects as a result of the investigation on state drug and weapon charge:
On Tuesday afternoon Kinston Police Chief Tim Dilday addressed the recent peaceful protest held in Kinston and other current events. “We will be back in our elementary schools, middle school, and high school where we work diligently to build relationships and to inspire the police officers of tomorrow.”
The Kinston Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying a person of interest in a fraud case.
According to a statement from the Kinston Police Department, on Monday, June 1, 2020, officers with the KPD were dispatched to a call of shots fired at approximately 4:25 p.m. in the area of the 300 block of College St.
Governor Roy Cooper: “Across the state, we saw a pattern in some of our cities. Protests and demonstrations held earlier in the day remained focused, powerful and nonviolent. Then as the night set in, a different crowd shifted to a more aggressive, more disruptive display…Storefront windows & government buildings were damaged. Retail stores were looted. Small businesses already struggling under COVID-19 were damaged. I communicated with some of them today and people were out there helping them today. Fires burned.”
Several nights of protests across the country, including Greenville where several businesses were damaged or destroyed, have potentially made their way to Kinston. Multiple social media reports indicate a 3:30 p.m. gathering in downtown Kinston today, apparently prompting the Kinston City Council to cancel their 7:00 p.m. meeting.
Chief Justice Cheri Beasley has entered three additional emergency orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The orders extend several existing emergency directives, extend the time for filing a notice of appeal, stay all pending evictions, and create a new mediation program for evictions.
