As adult ICU patients hit record highs for the pandemic, new report shows unvaccinated people are more than 15 times more likely to die from COVID-19 compared to vaccinated people

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services yesterday released new data in the weekly respiratory surveillance report showing that unvaccinated people were 15.4 times, or 1,540 percent, more likely to die from COVID-19 during the four-week period ending Aug. 21, 2021. This comes as the state hit a pandemic high on Aug. 26 with 912 adults in the ICU with COVID-19. The number of COVID-19 patients on ventilators also reached a record high at 574.

Governor Cooper discusses your shot at a million vaccine cash drawing in Davidson County

Governor Roy Cooper visited the Davidson County Health Department vaccine clinic in Lexington to see more people get their COVID-19 vaccine and talk about the Your Shot at a Million Summer Cash and College Tuition drawings for vaccinated North Carolinians. The health department has administered a majority of the vaccinations across Davidson County, administering nearly 60,400 doses.

Update on Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

Out of an abundance of caution, the CDC and FDA announced a recommendation to pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Our primary concern is the health and safety of all North Carolinians. Therefore, NCDHHS is following the recommendation of the CDC and FDA and has asked our vaccinating providers to pause the administration of the J&J COVID-19 vaccine until we learn more.
