More than 500 Lenoir County Public Schools graduating seniors put an exclamation point on a dramatic, often challenging but ultimately successful chapter of their lives during commencement exercises at Kinston, North Lenoir and South Lenoir high schools on Saturday.
Despite having spent nearly half their junior year and all their senior year going to school under the cloud of a global pandemic, the Class of 2021 left its mark in the LCPS record books – a most-ever total of 55 students who exited high school with both a diploma and a two-year college degree, plus the second-best total for scholarship offers at $11.3 million.
Three members of the Class of 2020 at South Lenoir High School have teamed up to write and record a song that speaks to seniors everywhere who are seeing long-awaited last-year traditions roiled by a global pandemic.
Three Lenoir County moms began a quest to recognize this year’s seniors as school shut down for the remainder of the academic year. Lori Turner Eason, Carla Williams, and Christi Collins are all senior moms. The three ladies have launched an effort to ensure that the class of 2020 in Lenoir and Greene Counties feel some sense of normalcy through gifts and encouragement from complete strangers.
