Paige Petticrew, Consumer Horticulture Extension Agent in Lenoir County, was honored to nominate Lenoir County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers (EMGVs) Jeannie Holmes and Debbie Jones for the NC Governor’s Volunteer Service Award earlier this year. Both Jeannie and Debbie truly embody the spirit of the award through their dedication, leadership, and service to the community, making the nomination process an easy decision.
Paige Petticrew, Consumer Horticulture Agent for Lenoir County Cooperative Extension, earned first place in the Feature Story category during the Communications Award Luncheon at the 2025 North Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents (NCACAA) this summer. Her winning piece, originally published by Neuse News on September 19, 2024 spotlighted the impactful work of the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers (EMGV) of Lenoir County and their passion for youth education through horticulture.
During the Lenoir County Commissioners Meeting in April, Marsha Lovick was presented with the 2025 NC Governor's Volunteer Service Award by her nominator, Paige Petticrew, consumer horticulture agent in Lenoir County, and Linda Rouse Sutton, Lenoir County Commissioner Chairman.
The Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Lenoir County (EMGV) held their Annual Christmas Party & Achievement Banquet December 10th. With over 30 EMGV and guests, great food and lots of laughter was shared throughout the celebration. Consumer Horticulture Agent & EMGV Advisor Paige Petticrew, 4-H Agent Abbigail Wells, and 4-H Program Assistant Joel Dixon were in attendance to join in the celebrations.
Consumer Horticulture Agent in Lenoir County, Paige Petticrew was recently invited to speak at the NC Cooperative Extension Agriculture Programs Foundation Board in Cary, NC. Paige received an Extension Innovation Grant in the spring of 2023 and was asked to report on how she utilized the grant funding to the board.

On March 25th Lenoir County Master Gardener Association (EMGV) and members of the Southeastern Native Plant Society gathered for a workday at our Native Plant Garden and Meadow located at the CSS Neuse Replica. EMGV Karen Mulcahy directed the group to remove invasive plants and freshen up the area for the spring.
The annual Lenoir Master Garden Plant Sale will be held behind the Cooperative Extension office at the Master Gardener Greenhouse at 1791 Hwy. 11/55 in Kinston.
