Fire District Receives New Rating After Inspection

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey announced today that the following Fire Districts completed their routine inspection and received the listed rating, on listed effective dates. The inspection, conducted by officials with the Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), is required on a regular basis as part of the North Carolina Response Rating System

LCPS middle school student receives lifesaving award from NC Insurance Commissioner

Mike Causey, North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal, went to Rochelle Middle School to present a Commissioner's Award for Heroism to Zsakiyah Sutton for her extraordinary actions during a fire in her home last November. “The courageous acts of this young lady helped save the life of her infant brother, and for that she is a true hero,” said Commissioner Causey. “It is an honor for me to present this award to her.”

Pollocksville Fire Department improves fire suppression rating

We are pleased to announce an improvement to our fire suppression rating from NCDOI/OSFM. Not only were we able to go from a 6/9E to a 5/9E (lower numbers are better!), but we were also able to utilize our new tanker truck to be graded by the water haul method. This will help those who reside more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant. This is a big deal for the community!

Sandy Bottom Volunteer Fire Department recognized with SAVE awards

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey honored first responders at Sandy Bottom Volunteer Fire Department. Causey handed the SAVE awards to Sandy Bottom Fire Chief Daniel Chewning, Deputy Chief Scott Hardison, Assistant Chief Timothy Mooring Jr., Capt. Kyle Owens and firefighters Chris Locke and Landon Stroud, along with Southwood Capt. Tyler Foyles and Deep Run firefighter Blake Ellis.

J. Mac Daughety, Lenoir County Commissioner and member of the Sandy Bottom Fire Department board said, “Sandy Bottom is like all of our fire departments, is a collection of individuals who chose to serve their community. They don’t do it for glory, they don’t do it for fame.”

La Grange woman arrested on felony insurance fraud

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of Felicia Bryant, 46, of La Grange. Bryant was charged with insurance fraud, a felony. According to the arrest warrant, Bryant filed a new vehicle damage claim with Geico when the damage had previously been reported to Allstate.
