In a region often overshadowed by larger economic hubs, eastern North Carolina is quietly making strides in economic development, largely thanks to the Global TransPark (GTP). In a recent sit down with Neuse News, Mark Pope, president of the NC Global TransPark Economic Development Region (NCGTPEDR), provided an update on the economic growth of the area.
Today, the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed three resolutions that will lead to an Italian company creating 110 new jobs and investing $28 million in the county.
West Pharmaceutical Services received a shipment of equipment for its Kinston, NC manufacturing facility on an Antonov plane, one of the largest cargo planes in the world, which landed and unloaded at the NC Global TransPark. West Pharmaceuticals has added 60 additional team members in the past eight months at its Kinston location. West is looking to hire even more people to fill new positions over the next several months.
The North Carolina Global TransPark Authority has hired Mark Pope to be its economic development director, effective July 15. In July 2018, Pope resigned as Lenoir County Economic Development executive director to become the Director and President of the Wayne County Economic Development Alliance.
