Kinston Community Center Director Kelly Cannon issued a note to all members yesterday stating, “We will provide updates when possible regarding our re-opening, however, we wanted to provide an update regarding your membership during this temporary closure. For membership dues that are drafted monthly, we will be suspending all monthly drafts for the month of April.” See the full letter here:
For the first time in 10 years, the annual Freedom Classic baseball competition between teams from the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy had to be canceled in Kinston. Mother Nature played a mean trick by dumping the only snow we are likely to see this season on our area the evening of Thursday, Feb. 20. The coaches from Navy and Air Force moved this year’s competition to the home field of the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. But what about the preparations and sponsorships of this year’s Freedom Classic? Will sponsors get their money back?
The park reported a 38-percent increase over 2018 with nearly $200,000 in net proceeds after basic expenses. Also, learn the latest regarding Emma Webb Pool and why the City Council ended a motion in a 2-2 tie.
