Kinston has earned its third All-America City Award, a national recognition reserved for communities that excel in civic engagement, cross-sector collaboration, and local problem-solving. It’s a proud moment. We deserve to celebrate. But as banners are raised and congratulations echo through City Hall, we need to ask a harder question:
On February 19, 2025, at 7:32 p.m., Kinston Police Department officers responded to a breaking and entering at the Dollar General on King Street. Surveillance footage captured a black male wearing a black hoodie with “OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE” written on the back forcibly kicking through the door to gain entry, while a black female remained outside.
A robbery took place today at the Dollar General, 2633 N.C. 11-55, Kinston, at approximately 10 a.m. Lenoir County Sheriff Ronnie Ingram said the suspect is a thin Black male, who is approximately 6-foot to 6-foot, 1-inch tall. He entered the Dollar General with a backpack and robbed the store at gunpoint.
