Ironclads and Innovation: CSS Neuse Museum Brings Civil War Naval History to Life July 11

While most people think of dusty battlefields when they picture the Civil War, the real game-changing technology was happening on the water. On Saturday, July 11, the CSS Neuse Museum will pull back the curtain on this high-seas drama with its immersive summer program, โ€œSailors in the Summer: Ironclads and Naval Living History.โ€ From 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., regional history will come alive through interactive exhibits, expert-led demonstrations, and hands-on family activities designed to show exactly what it took to survive as a sailor in the 1860s.

CSS Neuse Museum โ€˜Friendsโ€™ hosting a naval history symposium

The Friends of the CSS Neuse Museum will be hosting a maritime history symposium titled โ€œNorth Carolina Naval History in the Age of Sail and Steamโ€ on June 23 and June 24 at the CSS Neuse Museum, located at 100 N. Queen St. The subjects covered will include Naval History from pre-American Revolution, during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 through naval advancements during the Civil War.

CSS Neuse Museum is Certified Sensory Inclusive

The CSS Neuse Museum has partnered with non-profit organization KultureCity to provide a sensory inclusive experience for all museum programs and events. This new initiative will make exploring the museum a little easier for visitors with sensory sensitivities, including people on the autism spectrum, as well as people with sensory processing disorders, PTSD and other needs.
