On August 2, 2026, at approximately 1:39 a.m., a Lenoir County Sheriff's Office D-Shift deputy was conducting traffic enforcement on N.C. Highway 11 North near Ferrell Road when he observed a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed.
