Alyssa Beaman becomes the 2027 Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County

On Saturday, over $14,000 in scholarships and other gifts were given to the Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County Class of 2027. The Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County program is part of a nationwide effort to recognize, reward, and encourage excellence and education among all young people. Eight senior girls competed for the scholarships.

Alyssa Beaman became the 2027 Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County. She received a $3,500 scholarship and medallion, $500 clothing allowance for the state program and a 16 x 20 portrait from Brittany Smith Photography.

Third Runner Up Amber Johnson received a $1,000 dollar scholarship.

Second Runner Up Lexy Rouse received a $2,000 dollar scholarship.

First Runner Up Rory Smith received a $2,500 scholarship.

The Spirit Award Recipients were Rory Smith and Kaylee Stallings who received a $500 scholarship given by Jimmy and Daphne Pollock in honor of their daughters Ginny and Molly and Mellany Davis in honor of her nieces Macy Sanderson and Allyson Heath, all past Spirit recipients.

The Be Your Best Self/Community Award recipients were Bailey Rouse, Kaylee Stallings, Jaleya Perry, Lexy Rouse, Aislyn Chernault, and Amber Johnson.

The Preliminary Award Winners received $150 scholarships each:

Fitness: Rory Smith, Alyssa Beaman, and Aislyn Chernault

Self Expression: Alyssa Beaman, Aislyn Chernault, and Lexy Rouse

Talent: Amber Johnson, Alyssa Beaman, and Rory Smith

Interview: Lexy Rouse, Amber Johnson, and Alyssa Beaman

Scholastics: Rory Smith, Alyssa Beaman, and Lexy Rouse
