Evelyn Dove Coleman: Seems Like A Strategy

As I watched the NFL opener one chilly night, I bundled up and grabbed my remote to turn on the Patriots and Seahawks game.  During the first three quarters, the Patriots led, so I observed my bedtime and turned off the tv.  Lo and behold, the next day I awoke to the news that the Seahawks had come from behind in the 4th Quarter and won the game!

It reminded me of last year's season. Last year, I had noticed that one cannot forecast the ending of the game because play-makers rise up during the 4th Quarter and surprisingly change game outcomes.  Some say that is what creates the excitement of watching sports.  You never know what the outcome might be at the buzzer. 

I really enjoy watching the creative moves, the fancy footwork, and  the skilled pivoting some players have mastered.  It's better for me when I don't have a preferred team and can simply watch the sport. My heart beats too fast when I feel invested in a particular team like the Panthers or the Cowboys. Watching my team lose is hard, especially since it seems like a strategy for some to save their wind until the final thrust of the 4th Quarter.  Of course, games following that opening game have shown me that the teams playing ahead the whole game can indeed pull through to a win.  So, it's football season for all to enjoy together over cheese & veggie trays and hoagies. And watch out for those winning kicks right at the end, like the Chiefs made in overtime.
