Greene County to consider sponsorship of annual scholarship tournament
SNOW HILL โ The Greene County Board of Commissioners will consider sponsoring the 44th annual Snow Hill/Lenoir Community College Foundation Tennis and Golf Tournament during its meeting Monday.
The annual tournament raises money to support scholarships for Greene County students attending Lenoir Community College. According to information included in the countyโs agenda packet, the event has raised more than $270,000 since it began.
The LCC Foundation awarded more than $530,000 in scholarships to students across eastern North Carolina during the 2025-26 academic year.
This yearโs tournament will feature tennis, pickleball and golf competitions:
Aug. 21-23: USTA singles tennis tournament
Aug. 25: Womenโs, menโs and mixed-doubles pickleball tournaments
Aug. 27: Golf tournament at Cutter Creek Golf Club
Aug. 28-30: USTA doubles tennis tournament at Greene Ridge Racquet Club
Aug. 29: Tournament raffle
The agenda says Greene County has sponsored the tournament at various levels in previous years. However, the public packet does not identify how much the county is being asked to contribute this year.
It also does not provide the available sponsorship levels, the amount contributed by the county in 2025 or the county budget line that would fund the sponsorship.
Those details may be provided when the request is presented to commissioners Monday.
The Greene County Board of Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, in the commissionersโ meeting room at the Greene County Operations Center, 312 SE Second St. in Snow Hill.
Residents who want to speak during public comment must sign up at the entrance before the meeting begins. Each speaker will have up to three minutes.
