Greene County Road Closing for Roundabout Improvements Next Month
SNOW HILL – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close N.C. 91 at the newly constructed roundabout near Greene Central High School.
Beginning Aug. 3, crews will close N.C. 91 and will install an additional traffic island at this location to improve safety by slowing vehicles approaching the roundabout. The closure will allow time for the concrete on the new traffic island to cure and harden. The road is expected to reopen on Aug. 17, weather permitting.
The first of two planned roundabouts at Greene Central High School has been completed.
Following a review of traffic operations, NCDOT determined N.C. 91 southbound approach needed additional curvature to improve traffic flow and safe yielding.
A detour will be in place directing motorists to Middle School Road, Newell Road and U.S. 13/258.
Drivers should use caution and allow extra travel time while the closure is in place.
