Help Wanted: E-911 Shift Commander

As a member of Emergency Services with Lenoir County Government, you can make a difference! The Central Communications Division is seeking candidates for E-911 Shift Commander. Candidates work performs responsible supervisory work including coordinating the workload of a minimum of four-(4) shift personnel. Performs lead worker duties while operating E-911 advanced telephone equipment, 800MHz and conventional radio equipment, computer aided dispatch equipment to receive, process and transmit emergency calls for the city and county emergency responders. The nature of this work requires sound judgement in handling emergency situations according to established procedures and guidelines and the ability to remain calm and alert throughout an assigned period. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the 911 Division Chief.

Minimum Requirements:

· Graduation from an accredited high school

· Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license

· Knowledge of computer systems and database entry skills

· DCI computer terminal certification/re-certification as required by state law

· Emergency Medical, Fire and Police dispatch certification/re-certification as required by the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED)

· Emergency Telecommunicator dispatch certification/re-certification as required by the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED)

· Skill in operating a computer terminal keyboard

· Thorough knowledge of the DCI system

· Considerable knowledge of the emergency communications procedures and jurisdictions of various emergency service agencies

· Considerable knowledge of a variety of electronic equipment including telephones, radios, mapping, digital recording, computer aided dispatch, and the related hardware and software applications involved in all aspects of the receipt, processing and dispatching of 911 emergency and non-emergency calls for service

· Considerable knowledge of the County geography and functions, practices and procedures of all emergency responders: law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services

· Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and direct the work of subordinate personnel including training, motivation, coaching, evaluating and disciplining work performance

· Ability to promote cooperative work efforts among others

· Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with emergency personnel including law enforcement, fire, emergency medical personnel, County and City officials

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees

· Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone

· Ability to understand and express ideas clearly and concisely in both oral and written form

· Ability to enter data with accuracy at the speed required

This position requires the availability to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
