UNC Health Lenoir Earns Six American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® Awards for Excellence in Heart Failure, Stroke and Resuscitation Care

UNC Health Lenoir has once again been nationally recognized for its commitment to delivering exceptional care, earning six prestigious American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® awards for excellence in heart failure, stroke and resuscitation care. Several of these recognitions also include advanced Target and Honor Roll designations, highlighting the hospital's success in caring for patients with Type 2 diabetes, improving stroke outcomes and achieving exceptional survival rates following in-hospital cardiac arrest.

This year's awards include:

  • Heart Failure Gold Plus Achievement Award with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll

  • Heart Failure Rural Gold Award

  • Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll

  • Stroke Rural Gold Award

  • Resuscitation Silver Achievement Award

  • Resuscitation Target: Survival Award

These national recognitions reflect UNC Health Lenoir's commitment to providing the highest standard of care by consistently following the latest evidence-based clinical guidelines while achieving outstanding patient outcomes for the communities it serves.

Among this year's honors, the Get With The Guidelines®–Resuscitation Target: Survival Award is especially significant. While the Resuscitation Silver Achievement Award recognizes consistent adherence to the American Heart Association's evidence-based resuscitation guidelines, the Target: Survival Award goes a step further by recognizing hospitals that achieve risk-adjusted survival rates among the nation's top performers for patients who experience in-hospital cardiac arrest. The distinction reflects not only exceptional clinical processes, but also outstanding patient outcomes.

"These awards are a direct reflection of our team's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care to every patient, every time," said Dr. Keri Noeske, Chief Nursing Officer at UNC Health Lenoir. "To be recognized not only for consistently following nationally recognized best practices, but also for achieving outstanding patient outcomes, speaks to the dedication, expertise and compassion of our physicians, nurses and clinical teams. We are especially proud to receive multiple recognitions that highlight the quality of care we provide to our community."

Heart disease and stroke remain two of the leading causes of death in the United States. Nearly 6.7 million American adults are living with heart failure, while stroke remains a leading cause of serious long-term disability. Early recognition, rapid treatment and adherence to evidence-based care are critical to improving survival and helping patients recover with the best possible outcomes.

Through the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® program, UNC Health Lenoir follows nationally recognized treatment protocols designed to improve care for patients with heart failure, stroke and in-hospital cardiac arrest. These measures include rapid diagnosis and treatment, timely administration of medications, coordinated emergency response, comprehensive discharge planning and patient education to help reduce complications and improve long-term outcomes.

The hospital's Heart Failure Rural Gold Award and Stroke Rural Gold Award further recognize UNC Health Lenoir's success in delivering high-quality specialty care to patients in eastern North Carolina, where access to advanced healthcare services can be more limited. Rural Americans face significantly higher rates of heart disease, stroke and related complications, making access to evidence-based care especially important.

UNC Health Lenoir remains steadfast in its mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities it serves by providing exceptional care close to home.
