Kinston Public Services warns customers of utility payment scam calls
Kinston Public Services is warning utility customers about scam calls from individuals claiming to represent the department and threatening service disconnection over alleged nonpayment.
According to Kinston Public Services, the caller demands an immediate payment over the phone to prevent services from being disconnected.
The department said phone payments are only made through its automated payment system. Customer service representatives will not ask customers for payment information over the phone.
Anyone who receives a call of this nature should hang up. Customers may check the status of their utility account by calling 252-939-3282.
