As your Sheriff, I am completely against any system being used for personal, political, or other improper purposes. These License Plate Readers are used strictly as an investigative tool to help protect our citizens and assist law enforcement in solving crimes.

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office began using Flock LPRs in September 2025. Since then, the LPRs have assisted investigators in homicide cases, missing person investigations, felony larcenies, breaking and entering cases, hit and run investigations, and many other criminal investigations. In several cases, this technology has helped save lives and bring closure to victims and families.

I have seen several concerns from members of the community regarding the use of Flock LPRs. If your family member had been murdered, your home had been broken into, or your child or loved one was missing, this resource could assist law enforcement in those investigations.

Our priority is, and always will be, protecting the residents of Lenoir County while respecting the rights and privacy of our citizens.
