LCPS Celebrates 40 Student Interns at 2nd Annual Workforce Ignite Lenoir Signing Day

Lenoir County Public Schools celebrated 40 high school students who secured paid summer internships during the district's 2nd Annual Workforce Ignite Lenoir Signing Day, highlighting the growing partnership between education and industry in Lenoir County.

The event recognized students who have committed to spending their summer gaining hands-on experience in career fields that align with their interests and future goals. Through Workforce Ignite Lenoir, students are able to explore meaningful career pathways while developing the skills and experience needed to succeed after graduation.

This year's students will complete internships with ACE Electric, Fleet Readiness Center East, Kinston Police Department, Kinston Public Services, Lenoir County Public Schools, and Magic Mile Media. Additional students will participate in summer work-based learning opportunities with Crown Equipment Corporation, SEED (Smithfield Foods), and the LCPS LEAP program.

A major focus of Workforce Ignite Lenoir is expanding opportunities in skilled trades and technical careers, helping students discover pathways that can lead directly to employment, apprenticeships, certifications, and long-term career success. The program reflects the district's commitment to its mission of connecting every child to a prosperous future by ensuring students have access to real-world experiences before they graduate.

"We are thrilled to see 40 of our LCPS high school students taking advantage of our paid summer work-based learning opportunities," said Dr. Amy Jones, Director of High School Curriculum and Career & Technical Education. "Through collaborations with our dedicated business partners, these students are turning summer break into a launchpad for professional success. Every student selected for these roles has shown that they are ready and eager to learn. They represent the bright future of our workforce. Thank you to our amazing business and industry partners who have chosen to partner with the public school system and open their doors to our students."

By connecting students with local employers, Workforce Ignite Lenoir helps strengthen both the local workforce pipeline and the regional economy while giving students valuable experience that cannot be replicated in a classroom setting.

As the program continues to grow, LCPS remains committed to creating opportunities that prepare students for success in college, careers, and life while building strong partnerships with the businesses and industries that make Lenoir County thrive.
