Neuseway Nature Park to celebrate 30 years with fishing day, anniversary party
Neuseway Nature Park will mark its 30th anniversary Saturday, June 6, with a full day of family activities, beginning with Kid’s Fishing Day in the morning and continuing with an anniversary celebration in the afternoon.
Kid’s Fishing Day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the catfish pond at Neuseway Nature Park, 401 W. Caswell St. Children younger than 15 may register for a chance to win prizes. No fishing license is required for the day, and a limited number of loaner rods will be available. Organizers encourage participants to bring their own rods if possible.
Registration and loaner rods will be located at the catfish pond dock. Free bait will be provided by Neuse Sport Shop.
The park’s 30th anniversary celebration will follow from 1 to 4 p.m. The afternoon event will include games, vendors, gift card drawings, hot dogs from the Kinston Host Lions Club, birthday cake and appearances by community participants, including Flimsy the Clown.
“Neuseway Park and its facilities have been a great asset for our county over the last 30 years and we look forward to its potential growth and rejuvenation for the near future,” said Scott Alston, executive director of Kinston Lenoir County Parks and Recreation. “The staff and volunteers have a great day planned for the 30th anniversary and we encourage citizens to come out and enjoy the festivities. Also don’t miss Lenoir County’s own Flimsy the Clown at the event.”
The anniversary itinerary includes games and vendors from 1 to 4 p.m., a gift card drawing at 1:30 p.m., a park anniversary presentation at 2 p.m. and birthday cake for all at 2:30 p.m.
Participants listed for the anniversary celebration include Fort Fisher Aquarium, Neuse Riverkeeper, Wayward Falconry Academy, CSS Neuse Museum, River Park North, Predator or Prey Wildlife Sanctuary, Cowan Museum, 4C Retriever Club, Kinston Fire and Rescue, the Lions Club and Flimsy.
