Elder Abuse Awareness Walk set for June 15 in Kinston

The Lenoir County Council on Aging will host an Elder Abuse Awareness Walk at 9 a.m. June 15, beginning at its office at 112 E. Blount St. in Kinston.

The event is being held in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and is intended to bring attention to efforts to stop elder abuse in Lenoir County.

A short speech will be given at 9 a.m. before participants begin the walk. The route will start at the Lenoir County Council on Aging, continue down Queen Street to the courthouse, cross the street and return to the Council on Aging. Participants will remain on the sidewalk during the walk.

After the walk, 32 Below Ice Cream Truck will be at the Council on Aging, where participants may purchase ice cream. Bottled water will be available.

โ€œThank you in advance for your participation in this important message to stop Elder Abuse in our City and County,โ€ Betsy Griffin, executive director of the Lenoir County Council on Aging, wrote in the event announcement.
