Kinston police investigate three separate weekend shootings

Kinston Police Department Investigates Shots Fired Incident on Sloan Street

On Saturday, April 11th, 2026, at approximately 11:00 am, officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a reported shots-fired call in the 3400 block of Sloan Street. While en route, Lenoir County Communications advised responding officers that a victim was being transported to the hospital in a gray Hyundai sedan. Dispatch further indicated the suspect vehicle was described as a black sedan, with no additional information available at the time.

Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and located multiple shell casings, including both .45 caliber and 9mm casings. A firearm identified as a Glock 26, along with a significant amount of cash, was also recovered from the yard of a residence in the 3400 block of Sloan Street.

The victim, identified as Mohaganie McIver 19, of Kinston, was found to be at UNC Lenoir suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  

Preliminary information gathered from witnesses indicates that occupants of a black sedan fired multiple rounds at McIver. Witnesses further reported that a second individual returned fire from the area of a nearby residence.

During the investigation, officers determined that an occupied residence and a vehicle in the area were also struck by gunfire. Officers made contact with a resident who was inside the home with her child at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported.

Kinston Police Investigate Shooting in St. John Village; Suspect in Custody

On Sunday, April 12th, 2026, at approximately 12:45 am, officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to the area of St. John Village while investigating a reported burglary in progress when they heard multiple gunshots nearby.

Moments later, officers observed a male dressed in all black running westbound from St. John Village across Parker Street. Officers quickly detained the individual. While officers were on scene, Lenoir County Communications advised that additional calls were being received regarding a gunshot victim near one of the apartment buildings within St. John Village.

Officers immediately responded to that location and located a 15-year-old juvenile suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso. Officers rendered life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived. The juvenile was transported by EMS to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators and Crime Scene personnel responded to process the scene and continue the investigation. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation.

On Sunday, April 12th, 2026, at approximately 03:45 am, officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a residence on the 500 block of Georgetown Rd. Kinston, NC.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a moderate crowd calling for emergency assistance. They located a male, later identified as Antwon Davis, 46, of Pitt County, lying on the ground and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper and lower left leg.

Officers immediately rendered first aid until EMS arrived on scene. Davis was then transported to UNC Health Lenoir for medical treatment.

During the investigation, officers also located two vehicles that had been struck by gunfire, along with numerous shell casings in the area. Investigators and Crime Scene personnel responded to process the scene. All evidence was collected and secured. 

This incident remains under active investigation.
