Delmas Colton Head

Delmas Colton Head, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026, in Snow Hill, North Carolina, surrounded by his family.

Born in Wayne County, North Carolina, on August 31, 1935, he was the son of the late Oscar Hubert Head and Eloise Thompson Head.

Delmas proudly served in the North Carolina National Guard before embarking on a career with the J.G. McCrory chain, where he worked in management for more than a decade. He later joined Belk-Tyler Department Stores in the early 1970s as an operations manager and retired from Belk after 29 years of dedicated service.

Delmas found great joy in working with his hands and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and beekeeping, and was a former member of the North Carolina Beekeepers Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Priscilla L. Head; and his brother, James H. Head of Goldsboro.

Those left to cherish his memory include his two daughters, Ronda Head and Deborah Head, both of Kinston; his grandchildren, Lindsey Mangold Luther (David) and Connor James Mangold (Taylor); and his seven great-grandchildren, Matilda Luther, Elijah Luther, Bodhi Luther, Connor Mangold, Cayden Mangold, Charlotte Mangold, and Caroline Mangold. He is also survived by his sister, Alma Joyce Head of Kinston.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care and kindness, as well as the dedicated staff of Greendale Forest Nursing Facility.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. A private graveside service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Gurley Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lenoir County SPCA, 3200 U.S. 258, Kinston, NC 28504.
