After what felt like a record-breaking battle of words, Lenoir County Public Schools crowned its 2026 District Spelling Bee champion Tuesday night!

14 students, each representing their school as spelling bee winners, competed in an impressive display of focus, determination and vocabulary skills. The competition came down to an intense showdown between the final two contestants before Jeremiah Boyster of Woodington Middle School secured the championship title.

Carter Johnson of Lenoir County Learning Academy finished as runner-up after an outstanding performance!

Our District Spelling Bee is so much more than a competition, it is truly a celebration of the courage and talent of our students.

"Every student already proved themselves to be the spelling champion of their school," said Stacy Cauley, LCPS Director of Elementary Education. "No matter how they finished at the district level, they already achieved so much by preparing, practicing, and competing. LCPS students are truly incredible in their efforts and achievements."

As part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, Jeremiah will now represent LCPS at the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held March 1 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Congratulations to all 14 participants for representing their schools so well. We are proud of each of you! Best of luck to Jeremiah as he prepares for regionals!
