The Kinston Christmas Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, with free registration for all participants and the return of competition for floats and marching bands.
The updated plans replace the previously announced 4:30 p.m. start and $50 entry fee. Parade judges will evaluate floats and marching bands as part of the returning competition.
Earlier information listed a 4:30 p.m. start and a $50 entry fee.
Cathy Reese, who identifies herself in a video announcement as this year’s parade chair, encouraged broad participation.
“We invite every community, everyone, and the best part about it, the entrance is free this year,” Reese said.
Reese appeared alongside Bill Ellis, a Downtown Kinston Revitalization board member, to discuss the updates.
Participants must register by midnight Nov. 22 at downtownkinston.com/parade.
According to the parade website, lineup will begin at 9 a.m. at Grainger Stadium, 400 E. Grainger Ave. The approximately 1.3-mile route will begin at the stadium and end near East Caswell and McLewean streets.
Downtown Kinston Revitalization is hosting the parade with the City of Kinston, Kinston-Lenoir County Parks & Recreation.
Parade rules prohibit participants from throwing or handing candy or other items to spectators. Spectators should remain on sidewalks and avoid crossing while the parade is moving.
