Local student launches initiative to support veterans and first responders
Brie Rouse and her family walked into G.I. Joe’s on the morning of Dec. 23, 2025. Little did the veterans know, part of their Christmas had arrived early.
As we enter 2026, G.I. Joe’s would like to introduce Brie Rouse as the store’s Veterans Mascot. Brie is an eighth-grade student at Parrott Academy. She brought homemade Christmas cards created by third-grade students at her school, one for every veteran.
While handing out the Christmas cards, Brie explained she was launching a community service initiative called “Lifting Legends: A Mission to Support the Uniform.”
Brie, 14, founded the initiative to honor those who wear the uniform and their families. The organization focuses on providing tangible support to first responders, military veterans, and their families through community appreciation efforts and targeted fundraising. By recognizing not only those in uniform but also the families who support them at home, the initiative addresses a frequently overlooked part of the service community.
The initiative aims to make a direct impact by raising funds for essential needs. Planned efforts include community events to raise money for specific equipment or items needed by local first responder and veteran organizations, as well as helping create resources and support networks for spouses and children of active-duty service members and first responders. The goal is to ensure no one is left behind during or after service.
Through mobilizing young people and local businesses, Brie hopes to bridge the gap between civilians and those in uniform, fostering mutual respect and understanding.
G.I. Joe’s welcomes Brie and her family into the G.I. Joe’s family.
