The Plaza Kinston Post Office said to reopen Tuesday for box access nearly two years after it was damaged by a tornado.

At 10:30 a.m., customers reported that mail was being placed in boxes at the Plaza location on North Herritage Street after being picked up earlier at the Caswell Street main office. The doors were not yet open to the public at that time, but postal employees confirmed to customers that service would resume “when they finish.”

The reopened Plaza branch does not include a retail counter, meaning customers cannot buy stamps, weigh packages, or access other in-person services at the site. Those services remain available at the Kinston Main Post Office on East Caswell Street.

The Plaza post office has been closed since June 23, 2023, when an EF-1 tornado tore through the Kinston Plaza shopping center, damaging the roof and flooding the interior.
