The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Lighthouse Food Mart 

2777 Hwy 55 W, Kinston 

Date: 8/08

Score: 91

Observations: 

No ServSafe certified employee present. 

Cigarette ashes were in the hand-wash sink during inspection. 

Hot dogs and chili in cooler missing date marking label. 

Several flies present in establishment. 

No chemical agents available for sanitizing. 

Slight build up present in reach in cooler. 

The ceiling over the food prep area is sprayed, and it is not smooth and easily cleanable. The ceiling above the hand-wash sink is also peeling. 

There are holes in the wall behind the two compartment sink. 

Falling Creek Mart 

5744 US-70 W, La Grange

Score: 90.50

Observations: 

No certified food protection manager. 

Employee had hand in sink of water and raw chicken wings but did not wash hands before touching other services. 

Few utensils have not been cleaned thoroughly. 

Some foods are not date marked and some are past date mark expiration. 

No consumer advisory posted on menu. 

Several flies flying in kitchen. 

Food employees wear rings that are not approved under gloves and bracelets. 

Handles of scoops for single-service ingredients are inside the food product. 

Box of single-service cups on the floors. 

Shelving above 3-compartment sink is soiled. Insides of drawers have crumbs, dried paint, etc. 

Dumpster and grease bin are both open upon arrival. 

Some areas of floor and wall cleaning needed. Webs in corners of restrooms. Pipes are soiled.

Observations: 

No one present has ServSafe certification. 

Upon arriving hand-wash sink was full of crate of drinks. 

Dumpster lid open during inspection. 

Kitchen area where 3-comp sink is, has become more of a storage area.

Observations: 

Several flies in stand. 

Both hand-wash sinks have heavy drips. 

Floor in outside walk-in is curling at seams. Paint peeling on floor in stand.

Score: 98

Observations: 

Dumpster open on the side during the inspection. 

Large amount of trash spilled out along the outside of the dumpster.
