Sandy Bottom Volunteer Fire Department has announced the winners of its 2025 scholarships honoring the legacies of Ashton Rhodes and George Fisher.
Pictured left to right are:
Brian Whitfield, SBVFD President;
Gracie Bradshaw, recipient of the Ashton Rhodes Scholarship;
Brooklyn Tripp, recipient of both the Ashton Rhodes and George Fisher Scholarships;
and Daniel Chewning, SBVFD Fire Chief.
The Ashton Rhodes Scholarship, named for a young firefighter who passed away unexpectedly in 2006, awards $3,000 to a student connected to local emergency services. The George Fisher Scholarship, named for a longtime SBVFD member and former chief who died in 2011, awards $3,000 to a member of a Lenoir County volunteer fire department. Both scholarships recognize academic excellence and community involvement.
“These young ladies are very deserving winners,” said Whitfield. “Public recognition like this helps us continue funding scholarships in honor of Ashton and George.”
