Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Highlights Proactive Enforcement by CRT and SCARR
During the holiday week, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reduction Team (CRT) and Street Crimes and Rapid Response (SCARR) team were actively involved in multiple enforcement actions, demonstrating the department’s proactive approach to public safety.
On Christmas Eve, SCARR and CRT assisted the North Carolina Highway Patrol with an alcohol-involved motor vehicle collision on NC 11 North. During the investigation, a SCARR deputy located felony narcotics—cocaine and methamphetamine—on the at-fault driver, Rashad Barnes of Kinston. Barnes was cited by NCSHP and arrested for:
(F) Possession of Methamphetamine
(F) Possession of Cocaine
Barnes was held without bond under a PIA hold at the Lenoir County Detention Center.
On December 26, 2025, a CRT Sergeant conducted a traffic stop on W. Vernon Avenue for a motor vehicle violation. The driver, Treyvion Grinage of Augusta, GA, who had been residing in Lenoir County for several months, was identified as an absconder from the Sex Offender Registry in Richmond County, Georgia, and had failed to register locally. SCARR assisted in the investigation, and Grinage was arrested for:
(F) Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
Grinage was held on a $100,000 secured bond at the Lenoir County Detention Center.
