Obituary: Jan Waters Mewborn
Jan Waters Mewborn, 64, entered into the loving presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at ECU Health in Greenville. Jan was born in Beaufort County on March 4, 1961, to the late Linwood Earl Waters and Judith Irene Lewin Waters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robby Mewborn.
Over the years, Jan worked with ASMO in Greenville and later with MasterBrand Cabinets in Kinston. She was known for her dedication, strong work ethic, and the kindness she shared with those around her.
A faithful member of Daly's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Jan found great joy in worshiping and serving alongside her church family. Her love for the Lord was evident in all she did, and she was always willing to help wherever there was a need.
Family was at the center of Jan’s life. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, loving each one in a uniquely special way. Time at the beach with family and friends brought her great happiness, and her beloved cats were constant companions who brought her comfort and joy.
Jan also loved working outdoors. Tending to her flower beds and caring for her yard provided her peace and fulfillment, and the beauty of her work reflected the care she put into everything she touched.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at Daly's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. A service celebrating Jan’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary, with Pastor Chris Singleton officiating. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.
Jan is survived by her daughters, Crystal Modlin and husband, Justin, and Heather Toler; her grandchildren, Tyler, Landon, Trinity, Bodie, Melanie, Joseph “Joey”, Abbigale, Dylan and Kiley; her great-grandchild, Amelia Modlin; and her brother, Linwood Earl “Lenny” Waters II.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daly's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 6138 Daly's Chapel Road, Seven Springs, NC 28578. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
