Help Wanted: Instructional Designer
Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 Annually
The Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty and the Director of Online Learning and Faculty Development to design and enhance courses for increased engagement and student success. The Designer works in partnership with faculty to map courses, scaffold instruction, create high-engagement assignments and appropriate assessments, and effectively integrate OER and technology. As part of the larger Institutional Effectiveness/Online Learning team, the Instructional Designer ensures courses exhibit best practices in instructional design and adult learning theory and supports continuous improvement by assisting in the assessment of course outcomes and the implementation of strategies to enhance student success. The Instructional Designer also promotes the use of instructional studios, works to address faculty technology needs, and delivers professional development sessions on instructional strategies and technology integration, as needed.
Qualifications
ยท Bachelorโs degree from an institutionally accredited college or university with at least 18 graduate hours in instructional design, curriculum design or an otherwise related field; masterโs degree preferred
ยท 5+ years teaching experience is required; higher education teaching experience is preferred
ยท Demonstrable technology skills are required, including experience with instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)
ยท Extensive knowledge of instructional design and best practices, particularly in adult learning theory and online/synchronous environments
ยท Experience using data to inform instruction
ยท Strong organizational and multitasking skills
ยท Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
ยท Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
ยท High attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities
Working Conditions:
ยท Typical classroom and office environments
ยท Frequent collaboration and public speaking, both in-person and virtual
ยท Frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a telephone, computer, keyboard, and mouse; some standing and walking
ยท Occasional travel to additional sites or buildings
ยท The position is eligible for a hybrid/flexible work arrangement
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The duties of the Instructional Designer include, but are not limited to:
ยท Collaborate with faculty and the Director of Online Learning and Faculty Development to design (or redesign), implement, and assess courses using best practices in adult and online learning
ยท Work with faculty to identify, create, and implement appropriate instructional tools, activities, and assessments
ยท Ensure new and redesigned courses exhibit best practices in instructional design and adult learning theory and comply with ADA/WCAG 2.1 regulations and Universal Design for Learning principles
ยท Assist faculty and the Director of Online Learning and Faculty Development with mapping the curriculum new programs of study or credentials
ยท Assist faculty and the Director of Online Learning and Faculty Development in transitioning in-person courses or programs to 100% online, as needed
ยท Promote the use of instructional design studios among faculty and off-campus partners (i.e., high schools, AAMC)
ยท Provide faculty with guidance on effectively using the applications and tools that are available through the Collegeโs learning management system (Moodle)
ยท Support faculty in the transition to new platforms and the creation and implementation of Open Educational Resources (OER)
ยท Facilitate Online Learningโs course quality review processes using recognized rubrics
ยท Participate in data conversations (including the Collegeโs annual assessment of program and general education learning outcomes) and subsequently design and implement continuous improvement strategies that aim to provide student learning outcomes
ยท Create web-based tutorials and resources for faculty and students
ยท Develop and deliver professional development sessions for faculty on instructional design and technology integration
ยท Research and recommend emerging instructional technologies and innovative teaching strategies
ยท Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
