Aviation Management and Career Pilot Program Chair/Instructor
The Aviation Management and Career Pilot Technology Program Chair/Instructor is responsible for providing oversight of the program and planning quality instruction to students using seated, online, and hybrid courses. This individual is responsible for providing innovative and engaging instruction and ensuring that course topics and examples evolve with advancements in the field. This position is responsible for scheduling, creating, and coordinating all courses for students to successfully complete degree requirements. This individual will coordinate all facets of the Aviation Management and Career Pilot Technology Program; devising and executing a recruiting program to engage and enroll new students. More specifically, this individual will network with regional aviation partners to collaborate on projects, market the aviation program, and further develop partnerships crucial to Aviation in the surrounding region. This position will report to the Director of Advanced Manufacturing & Industrial Systems Technology Program Chair.
Qualifications
ยท Bachelor's degree in the aerospace discipline from an institutionally accredited college or university or an Associate degree with completion of Bachelor's degree expected within 3 years
ยท A minimum of three years demonstrated aviation management and/or relevant aviation experience
ยท Must hold a current FAA Flight Instructor Certification
ยท In depth knowledge of the regional aviation industry and emerging sectors
ยท Previous teaching experience at a community college or university, experience using instructional technologies, and teaching online courses are preferred skills
Working Conditions
ยท Typical classroom or online teaching environment
ยท Frequent flight simulator use for extended periods of time
ยท Occasional flight instruction in a cockpit may be needed (Note: LCC does not currently operate a flight school)
ยท Frequent standing for 6 to 8 hours per day, withstanding frequent changes in temperature
ยท Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
ยท Infrequent lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs. without assistance
ยท Frequent travel between buildings on campus and infrequent travel to other campuses
ยท Frequent communication with students and other faculty and staff members
ยท Infrequent sitting at a desk or workstation using a telephone, computer, keyboard, and mouse
ยท Exposure to fire and chemical hazards
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The duties of the Aviation Management Program Chair/Instructor include, but are not limited to:
ยท Create and lead academic planning to provide quality educational programs
ยท Teach credit or non-credit courses in the teaching discipline as needed
ยท Recruit and train faculty (full-time and/or part-time) to teach aviation courses
ยท Evaluate aviation faculty as needed
ยท Recruit and market programs to students, aviation business partners, and other external constituents
ยท Supervise the growth and expansion of aviation programs to include curriculum and continuing education offerings
ยท Cultivate internal and external partnerships and activities to develop new programs, garner resources, and serve students in the community
ยท Create and maintain a culture of innovation and input that encourages professional development and stakeholder input
ยท Develop new programs and options based on local and regional needs and the Collegeโs strategic plan
ยท Direct the development and administration of a cost-effective budget for assigned functions; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; and monitor and approve expenditures
ยท Work collaboratively with the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division in the development of short-term training to meet the needs of the community
ยท Initiate and nurture joint programs with baccalaureate institutions
ยท Engage in and support the work of the LCC Foundation by assisting in the development of aviation-specific scholarships
ยท Maintain and regularly update the Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center of Excellence website with the Web and Form Developer

ยท Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline
ยท Display ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of the field or discipline
ยท Connect the subject matter with related fields
ยท Stay current in the subject matter through professional development; involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, and/or workshops
ยท Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
Teaching Performance
ยท Teach a course load appropriate to the teaching discipline
ยท Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
ยท Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
ยท Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs
ยท Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, etc., when appropriate
ยท Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate student assignments
ยท Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
Evaluation of Student Learning
ยท Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
ยท Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
ยท Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
ยท Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades each semester according to established deadlines
ยท Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
Support of College Policies and Procedures
ยท Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment
ยท Teach credit or non-credit courses in the teaching discipline as needed
ยท Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation
ยท Serve as faculty academic advisor for students
ยท Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies
ยท Maintain confidentiality of student information
ยท Substitute for other instructors in the teaching discipline in case of an absence
ยท Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources
ยท Comply with responsibilities as cited in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Handbook for Distance Education, Policy Manual, and Procedures Manual
Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities
ยท Serve on college committees as assigned
ยท Participate in meetings and events as required
ยท Respond in a timely manner to requests for information
ยท Support both part-time and full-time colleagues
ยท Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development processes
ยท Participate in graduation ceremonies
ยท Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a team member

ยท Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Other Duties
ยท Direct students in laboratory classes; train and supervise activities of students in lab settings; assist students with lab assignments and related activities
ยท Ensure that equipment, materials, and other resources, such as instructional aids are available for classes
ยท Take a lead role in maintaining lab equipment; and if needed, perform simple maintenance
ยท Make arrangements for equipment repairs when machines break down
ยท Coordinate and supervise curriculum development by designing, planning, organizing, and evaluating the assigned program of study
ยท Supervise and participate in the evaluation of faculty within the program area
