Lenoir Community College is a comprehensive institution that places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. The Adjunct Art Instructor is responsible for providing quality art instruction to Associate in Fine Arts-Visual Arts students and other LCC students needing general education art courses through the use of seated, online, and lab courses. The Instructor is responsible for providing one-on-one and whole group instruction so that students are able to successfully complete degree requirements in an engaging environment.

This position will remain open until filled.

Qualifications

ยท         Master's degree in art from a regionally accredited institution or a master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in art (courses designated as graduate-level art courses)

ยท         Previous teaching experience at a community college or university, experience using instructional technologies, and teaching online courses are preferred skills

ยท         Typical online and/or synchronous environment

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The duties of the Adjunct Art Instructor include, but are not limited to:

ยท         Direct students in laboratory classes; train and supervise activities of students in lab settings; assist students with lab assignments and related activities

ยท         Showcase student/faculty art, sculptures, etc. on campus and at community art exhibitions

ยท         Ensure the art lab and curriculum spaces are tidy, organized, and presentable as a visible art space

ยท         Ensure that equipment, materials, and other resources such as instructional aids are available for classes

ยท         Take a lead role in maintaining lab art equipment; and if needed, perform simple maintenance

ยท         Arrange for equipment repairs when machines, tables, etc. break down

ยท         Plan, implement, and evaluate course-specific instruction

ยท         Facilitate instruction in the teaching discipline with the faculty

ยท         Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of courses

ยท         Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum

ยท         Coordinate and supervise curriculum development by designing, planning, organizing, and evaluating the assigned program of study

ยท         Serve as a resource for student resolutions


Faculty members are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the College:

Mastery of Subject Matter

ยท         Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline

ยท         Display ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of the field or discipline

ยท         Connect the subject matter with related fields

ยท         Stay current in the subject matter through professional development; involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, and/or workshops

ยท         Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate

Teaching Performance

ยท         Teach a course load appropriate to the teaching discipline

ยท         Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning

ยท         Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students

ยท         Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs

ยท         Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, etc., when appropriate

ยท         Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate student assignments

ยท         Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives

Evaluation of Student Learning

ยท         Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives in collaboration with the AFA Program Chair

ยท         Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives

ยท         Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning

ยท         Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades each semester according to established deadlines

ยท         Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances

Support of College Policies and Procedures

ยท         Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment

ยท         Teach credit or non-credit courses in the teaching discipline as needed

ยท         Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies

ยท         Maintain confidentiality of student information

ยท         Substitute for other instructors in the teaching discipline in case of an absence

ยท         Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources

ยท         Comply with responsibilities as cited in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Handbook for Distance Education, Policy Manual, and Procedures Manual

Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities

ยท         Serve on college committees as assigned

ยท         Participate in meetings and events as required

ยท         Respond in a timely manner to requests for information

ยท         Support both part-time and full-time colleagues

ยท         Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development processes

ยท         Participate in graduation ceremonies if possible

ยท         Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a team member

Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs

ยท         Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans

ยท         Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents

ยท         Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, mission, and plans of the College

ยท         Participate in the marketing, recruitment, and retention of students, faculty, and staff

Other Duties

ยท         Plan, implement, and evaluate course-specific instruction 

ยท         Assist the Dean of Arts and Sciences and the AFA Program Chair in updating course content or making suggestions for course content updates as needed

ยท         Attend meetings scheduled by the AFA Program Chair or Dean

ยท         Ensure contact information and other items are updated in the course being taught each semester

ยท         Utilize the current course shell created by the full-time Art Instructor each semester

ยท         Input notes and/or alerts in AVISO for students when necessary

ยท         Ensure withdrawals are submitted in a timely manner, following the College's attendance policy

ยท         Ensure assignments are graded within 1 week of submittal

ยท         Ensure response to student emails or phone calls within 48 hours (excluding weekends)

ยท         Other tasks as assigned by the Dean of Arts and Sciences and/or AFA Program Chair
