Help Wanted: Teacher Preparation and Occupational Education Program Chair/Instructor
Lenoir Community College is a comprehensive institution that places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. The Teacher Preparation and Occupational Education Program Chair/Instructor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Associate in Arts-Teacher Preparation and Occupational Education courses by coordinating instructors for courses, assisting with course scheduling, conducting instructor evaluations, and other duties as required. The Program Chair/Instructor is responsible for providing quality and engaging instruction to LCC students via the use of seated and/or online and synchronous teaching methods or other creative modalities, advising students in transfer and lateral entry pathways, and for ensuring that students are able to successfully complete all course requirements in an engaging classroom environment. The Program Chair/Instructor is responsible for working with the Dean of Arts and Sciences and Early Childhood Program Chair to ensure all student learning outcomes are met for all courses in his or her purview and for promoting and recruiting these programs in the surrounding community.

The duties of the Teacher Preparation and Occupational Education Program Chair/Instructor include, but are not limited to:
Mastery of Subject Matter
ยท Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline
ยท Display ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of the field or discipline
ยท Connect the subject matter with related fields
ยท Stay current in the subject matter through professional development; involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, and/or workshops
ยท Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
Teaching Performance
ยท Teach a course load appropriate to the teaching discipline, to include Teacher Preparation, Early Childhood, Occupational Education, and other courses as assigned
ยท Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
ยท Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
ยท Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs
ยท Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, etc., when appropriate
ยท Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate student assignments
ยท Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
Evaluation of Student Learning
ยท Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
ยท Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
ยท Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
ยท Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades each semester according to established deadlines
ยท Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
ยท Create, collect, revise, and analyze student learning outcomes, in conjunction with instructors, to ensure SLOs are updated annually
Support of College Policies and Procedures
ยท Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment
ยท Teach credit or non-credit courses in the teaching discipline as needed
ยท Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation
ยท Serve as faculty academic advisor for students in Teacher Preparation and Occupational Education degrees, diplomas, or certificates
ยท Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies
ยท Maintain confidentiality of student information
ยท Substitute for other instructors in the teaching discipline in case of an absence
ยท Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources
ยท Comply with responsibilities as cited in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Handbook for Distance Education, Policy Manual, and Procedures Manual
Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities
ยท Serve on college committees as assigned
ยท Participate in meetings and events as required
ยท Respond in a timely manner to requests for information
ยท Support both part-time and full-time colleagues
ยท Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development processes
ยท Participate in graduation ceremonies
ยท Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a team member
Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs
ยท Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans
ยท Contribute to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels
ยท Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents
ยท Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, mission, and plans of the College
ยท Participate in the marketing, recruitment, and retention of students, faculty, and staff
ยท Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Other Duties
ยท Work with the dean to hire and supervise part-time instructors as needed by the department
ยท Serve as a direct line of communication between instructors and the dean
ยท Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of courses
ยท Select textbooks and complete requisitions of textbooks for courses within the program and assist other instructors with completing textbook requisitions for their courses
ยท Assist the dean with institutional effectiveness planning and budgets as needed
ยท Make recommendations to the division dean concerning development and expansion of courses
ยท Coordinate and supervise curriculum development by designing, planning, organizing, and evaluating the assigned program of study
ยท Supervise instructor(s) as assigned by the dean
ยท Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental specific policies with the dean
ยท Participate in the evaluation of faculty within the program area by completing appropriate faculty/staff evaluations annually and holding conferences with faculty prior to the end of the semester
ยท Maintain frequent contact with full-time and part-time faculty
ยท Serve as a resource for student resolutions
ยท Teach evening and satellite classes as needed
ยท Recruit for the College, as needed, participating in at least two college-sponsored recruiting events each semester
ยท Partner with the school system to determine updates to curriculum, course offerings, etc., and to recruit participants for advisory committees
ยท Other tasks as assigned by the Dean of Arts and Sciences
Qualifications
ยท Master's degree in education or an education subfield from a regionally accredited institution or a master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in area of teaching discipline (courses designated as graduate-level courses) is required
ยท Previous teaching experience at a community college or university, experience using instructional technologies, and teaching online courses is preferred
ยท Previous teaching experience in elementary, middle, or secondary grades is preferred
