May 6 Paul Sugg to speak at LCC’s 62nd Commencement May 9

Lenoir Community College will hold its 62nd commencement at 7 p.m. May 9 in the Student Center with Paul Sugg, president of EastPoint Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. headquartered in Kinston as the guest speaker. Admission to the ceremony is by ticket only as seating is limited. More than 350 graduates are eligible to receive degrees.

Graduation will be livestreamed on the College’s website at www.lenoircc.edu for those who are unable to attend.

A founding partner at Advanced 3D, Inc., and founder of EP Legacy, Sugg received an associate degree from Lenoir Community College in 1988; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at East Carolina University in 1990; completed post baccalaureate certificates in Prosthetics and Orthotics from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL in 1996, received his MA from Bethany Divinity College and Seminary in Dothan, AL in 2021 and is a PhD candidate for his Doctorate in Philosophy Degree set to graduate in May 2024. He has worked in the field of Prosthetics & Orthotics for 31 years and started EastPoint in Kinston in 2008. The company now has 37 employees and has offices located in North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

He is a published author in Braddom’s textbooks for physical medicine and rehabilitation, various physical therapy journals, and national magazines. He has lectured for physical therapists and physiatrists at the University of North Carolina and the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He is a member of the local high school job shadowing program for Lenoir County and former Area Governor for his local Rotary Club district.

In 2021, he started Advanced 3D, Inc. in Kinston, a 3D printing company that supplies nylon printed parts globally on their HP Multi Jet Fusion 4210 and HP Color 580 printers. The bulk of the business is in orthotic and prosthetic devices.

He and his wife Emily founded EP Legacy, Inc., a non-profit group aiming to aid amputees throughout the world with their mobility. He attends medical missions to El Salvador, Guatemala, and the Ivory Coast. In 2018, he sent two shipping containers to Tanda, Ivory Coast West Africa to establish the first-of-its-kind prosthetic laboratory there bringing prosthetic limbs to amputees in need. In November of 2020 they delivered the first ever 3D printed multi-jet fusion prosthesis in the Ivory Coast.

He is active in his local Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris fellow by the Rotary Club of Winnipeg Canada for his contributions to service among peoples of the world. He was voted as mentor of the year by the Young Professionals of Lenoir County. In 2023, he received the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award for his 3D printing and medical mission work.

He is active in his local church, enjoys history, and is a private pilot. He enjoys writing about life adventures and has been married to his wonderful wife Emily for 34 years and has one son, Tyler.

He currently serves on the Lenoir Community College Foundation Board and the Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce Board. He has held past positions on the UNC-Lenoir Hospital Foundation Board and is past Area Governor of District 7730 for the Rotary Clubs of Eastern North Carolina.
