Assault and resisting arrest charges for Kinston man in LCSO custody

A man was arrested Monday by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office patrol units after a vehicle accident that resulted from him allegedly punching his mother in the head and face while she was driving.

Omarr Rashad Johnson, 30, of Kinston, was arrested following Monday’s accident and charged with:

·      Assault by strangulation

·      Crime of domestic violence

·      Resisting a public officer

On Monday at around 6 a.m., LCSO patrol units responded to N.C. 11 North just outside of Grifton to a report of a motor vehicle accident. While deputies were en route to the scene, a passing motorist stopped to help the occupants of the vehicle. While trying to render aid, the motorist observed Johnson assaulting his mother.

When the deputies arrived at the accident, they observed Johnson walking away from the scene. Johnson refused to follow commands given by the deputies and was placed in custody after a brief struggle.

The investigation by the deputies revealed Johnson punched his mother in the head and face, causing her to lose control of the vehicle. Deputies learned after the collision he continued to assault his mother by choking her and threatening her with more violence.

Johnson was transported to the Lenoir County Magistrates Office for processing and received his charges. He did not get a bond due to the crime being domestic in nature.
