Letter to the editor: Bait and Switch? I wonder.
Wendy's has advertised an extremely good breakfast deal, biscuit special. How do you get it?
It's your choice of a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit, a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, or a honey chicken biscuit for a dollar each. Advertised on television, it's a sure draw for breakfast biscuit lovers. I decided to give them a try as my wife and I have never eaten breakfast at a Wendy's.
Stopping at the store nearest me, I was told, "Sorry, sir. (Pause) We have no eggs. The truck didn't deliver them." After some discussion the manager sold me a sausage and cheese biscuit for a dollar. Later, telling the story to a veterans group that morning, I heard the same complaint, but about another Wendy's. That store had "no biscuits."
Today (a week later) I went to the store I had visited the first time, again. "We're out of biscuits. The truck didn't deliver them." I asked why there were excuses two weeks in a row. No answer. But, they had other breakfast items, all more expensive. So, I went to the store across town. "NO biscuits." I asked why to be told, "The truck didn't deliver them." When I asked what breakfast sandwiches were available I was offered alternatives, but ALL at much higher prices. Both stores had the same responses.
I know of only one person to have gotten any of these biscuit specials. Is this because of poor management? Poor planning? Or, an old "bait and switch" ploy? Whatever the answer they've lost a customer, whether they now are in stock with the meats, eggs and biscuits.
Finally, since I have taken the time to address this, let me add an opinion about one of the stores: It's dirty and needs cleaning. Won't shop there again. But, remember that it's just one man's opinion.
