Local 7-year-old inspires community through music
At just seven years old, Contentnea-Savannah student Cameron Holder is making waves in the local music scene. The second grader, who recently showcased his original song, is inspiring peers and adults alike with his passion for music and his dedication to pursuing his dreams.
Holderโs journey into music began early, influenced by a family deeply rooted in musical traditions. โMy dad came up with the lyrics and the music, and my uncle Peasy made the beat,โ Holder said. โI want everybody to know I made the song with my voice.โ
His parents, Delmar and Jonika Holder, describe their son as a naturally talented and driven young musician. According to Delmar, music has been a constant in Cameronโs life. โHeโs been around music ever since he was born,โ Delmar said. โFrom being in a stroller, heโs been exposed to it. Iโve made music, his mom sings, and his uncle is a drummer. Itโs always been a part of him.โ
Cameronโs uncle, Rodney Bates, who serves as his business manager, also reflects on the boyโs early interest in music. โWhen he was about three years old, he would carry my drumsticks and say he was helping me,โ Bates said. โHeโs always loved the drums, and now heโs channeling that passion into something bigger.โ
Cameronโs current musical journey includes a song that he plans to release on Valentineโs Day. He is already performing at school events, church gatherings, and even opening for Batesโ cover band, Jet Stream. Delmar notes that the communityโs support has been instrumental. โWeโve talked to his school, and theyโre on board with him performing at pep rallies. Heโs also going from event to event, and the encouragement from everyone around him makes a huge difference.โ
Despite his early success, Cameron remains grounded and focused on his future aspirations. โI want to play drums, guitars, and trumpets,โ he said. โI have a drum set at my dadโs house, and I practice a lot.โ
The young musicianโs parents and uncle emphasize the importance of fostering his happiness and growth. โWe constantly ask him if he enjoys what heโs doing, and he loves it,โ Bates said. โMy main objective as his uncle is to ensure heโs happy.โ
Cameronโs mother, Jonika, sees her sonโs musical gift as something special for the community. โI feel like Cameronโs gift is a light, even to his friends at school,โ she said. โItโs inspiring to see someone use their talent for a positive reason.โ
Holderโs musical endeavors are already gaining traction in the local area, with plans for his performances to reach broader audiences. Delmar hopes the exposure will encourage other children to explore their talents. โWith support from parents, family, and the community, kids can achieve amazing things,โ Delmar said. โItโs not something you see every day, and itโs worth nurturing.โ
When asked what message heโd like to share with the community, Cameron expressed a hope to inspire others. โI want kids to know they can do the same thing Iโm doing,โ he said.
Holderโs family remains steadfast in their support. โWe love you, Cameron,โ Bates said during the interview. โKeep doing what makes you happy.โ
Cameron concluded with a heartfelt wish: โWhen I grow up, I want to travel all around the world with my song, with my dad and Uncle Bates.โ
The young musicianโs determination and enthusiasm serve as a reminder that creativity and hard work can begin at any age, inspiring others to follow their passions.
