Emergency Medical Sciences Instructor
The Emergency Medical Sciences Instructor will provide classroom and lab instruction for continuing education and curriculum EMS programs in accordance with college, state, and national policies, standards, and guidelines.
Qualifications
ยท Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline is required; bachelor's degree in the teaching discipline preferred
ยท Previous teaching experience at a high school, community college, or university; experience using instructional technologies and teaching online courses is preferred
ยท Extensive (5+ years) experience in the medical profession, which must include experience as a paramedic
ยท Certification as a provider in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
ยท Must possess a North Carolina Level I Paramedic Instructor credential or be eligible for Level I Instructor status within 1 year of employment; Level II instructor credentials preferred
ยท Must obtain instructor certifications for CPR, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS within one year after hire date (by assignment)
ยท Licensure and/or certification requirements specific to the teaching discipline and external governing agencies shall be on file with Human Resources
Working Conditions
ยท Typical classroom or online teaching environment
ยท Frequent standing for 6 to 8 hours per day, withstanding frequent changes in temperature
ยท Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
ยท Infrequent lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs. without assistance
ยท Frequent travel between buildings on campus and infrequent travel to other campuses
ยท Frequent listening to and talking with students and other faculty and staff members
ยท Infrequent sitting at a desk or workstation using a telephone, computer, keyboard, and mouse
ยท Exposure to fire and chemical hazards
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The duties of the Emergency Medical Sciences Instructor include, but are limited to:
ยท Direct students in laboratory classes; train and supervise activities of students in lab settings; assist students with lab assignments and related activities
ยท Ensure that equipment, materials, and other resources, such as instructional aids, are available for classes
ยท Take a lead role in maintaining lab equipment; and if needed, perform simple maintenance
ยท Plan for equipment repairs when machines break down
ยท Plan, implement, and evaluate course specific instruction
ยท Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum
ยท Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Emergency Medical Sciences
