Mike Parker: ‘Artist Talk/Demo’ features Crystal Eadie Miller
At 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, Crystal Eadie Miller will be featured at an “Artist Talk/Demo” at the smART Gallery located at 210 N. Queen Street in Kinston.
In addition to presenting an overview of her portfolio, works that range from wall and furniture finish samples to proofs of almost all her painting since 2012, she will also demonstrate some fun and quick ideas for furniture finishes and share a few tips she has learned over the years from classes and working in the field.
She created her latest art collection in her smART Artist Home/Studio in Mitchelltown while being a part of the smART Kinston Foundation Program. The title of her “Foreseen Collection” will include nine originals, as well as samples of her previous work.
“The title 'Foreseen' to me is a word about Faith, of things not seen. The reason and purpose of the work will prevail – always – through faith.”
Miller has been formulating color, concepts, processes, texture, and patterns in designed spaces, surfaces, and interiors for more than 20 years as a decorative painter/faux finisher. She added canvas art works to her repertoire ten years ago. She focuses on color, blending, and developing impressions of images of things that inspire her.
“I think challenge, inspiration, and light coincides with almost every artwork I create,” she said at a recent exhibit. “I am motivated by what a piece can become. Every work has its own sense of accomplishment.”
Kinston’s ‘smARTists,’ as they are affectionately known, are individuals of artistic persuasion from all over the country who have come to live among each other in a rapidly growing art community established through the smART Kinston Project Foundation.
Kinston’s revitalization efforts have brought about a brighter, more beautiful downtown, as well as offering unique lodging, cosmopolitan shopping, and fine dining. Mitchelltown hosts the smARTist community, artists whose homes are recognized by their vivid and pastel colors with white picket fences.
The smART Gallery also presents an “Open Studio” every last Saturday of the month. Blue signs in participating artists’ yards announced “Open Studio” Saturday. When you see the signs, go on in! You are welcome to enjoy all kinds of art and a variety of treats. The smART Gallery has maps for those interested in navigating the smART neighborhood. Studio tours are offered at this time as well and can be arranged by contacting the smART Gallery.
