LCSO: 37-year-old man arrested for statutory rape with a 15-year-old

KINSTON — A 37-year-old man has been arrested for statutory rape with a 15-year-old.

Jon Kyle Bennett was arrested Saturday and charged with statutory rape of a person who is 13-, 14- or 15-years-old by a defendant who is at least 6 years older than the victim. Bennett was taken into custody by the Washington (N.C.) Police Department on Saturday.

The investigation began on Feb. 18 when the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a sexual assault between the 15-year-old and Bennett. After the LCSO investigation, Bennett was charged with the crime.
