Commissioner Chad Rouse is resigning from the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners. Neuse News has confirmed that Lenoir County School Board member Keith King will be voted on as Rouse's replacement at an upcoming special Lenoir County Board of Commissioners meeting.

On Monday, December 4, 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department Criminal Investigations Division obtained warrants and arrested John Landrine, 65, of Kinston, for Second Degree Forcible Sexual Offense and Crimes Against Nature. The arrest stemmed from an investigation that began on November 13, 2023, in reference to the sexual misconduct between Landrine and an adult handicapped male who was under the care of Landrine.
