Obituary: Dwight Frederick Buck

Dwight Frederick Buck, 74, of Albertson, formerly of Kinston, died early Sunday morning at ECU Health - Duplin in Kenansville, following a brief final illness and a two-year battle with stroke-related disease.

Dwight was born in Kinston on November 9, 1948, to George Washington Buck, Jr., and Jeanne Coleman Buck. He graduated from Grainger High School in 1967 and from East Carolina University in 1972 and lived in Kinston until moving to Albertson in 2009. Following a successful sales career with Animal Health Company of Harrisonburg, Virginia, he retired in 2016. Dwight cherished his memories of playing baseball: he was the starting catcher on the 1967 state baseball championship team at Grainger High School. He was a longtime member of Pink Hill United Methodist Church, where he was very active in various leadership roles. Throughout his life, he was an enthusiastic fisherman and outdoorsman.

Dwight died peacefully in the presence of his beloved wife Manena. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his younger sister Valerie Buck Cress of Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Manena Smith Buck of Albertson; his daughters Melissa Buck of Landrum, South Carolina, and Tina Buck Herrington of Seven Springs; his son-in-law Kevin Herrington of Seven Springs; his brother Coby Buck and sister-in-law Cynthia Buck of Charlotte; brother-in-law Gary Smith and his wife, Vivian of Albertson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their special appreciation to the staff of ECU Health – Duplin. A funeral service will be held at Pink Hill Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 followed by entombment at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
