Lenoir County Sheriff's Office warns of text messaging scam reaching local residents

Posted on Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:

A text message is going around and has reached some of our residents in the area. This text is advising you have a package that is on hold with a website link. When you open the link, it appears to be a US Postal service web page.

Sheriff Ronnie Ingram shared, “in our current time, so many people order things from online websites. You may be waiting on a package and this text will make you think if I don’t respond, I won’t get my package. The design of this text and site is very convincing, but this is a fake site trying to scam you. Please do not fall for this scam.”

We have attached pictures of this information and a video from the US Postal Service about this scam. The USPS is advising not to open the link or it could allow these scammers to access your phone. You should delete the text message.

More information can be found on the United States Postal Inspection Services.
