Lenoir Community College - Financial Aid Counselor

Salary: $31,200 - $36,000 Annually

The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for helping students complete financial aid applications and other necessary forms, requesting and processing confidential documents, answering phones and handling inquiries, assisting veterans with the veterans' benefits process, and submitting electronic data to the Veterans Administration. The Counselor will provide research and assistance to the Director of Financial Aid with administering grants, scholarships, loans, and student employment per federal, state, and institutional regulations.

This position will remain open until filled.

The duties of the Financial Aid Counselor include, but are not limited to:

ยท Provide specialized customer service to members of the various branches of military service, veterans, and their eligible dependents

ยท Provide current and accurate information to students and staff related to G.I. Bill benefits and appropriate financial aid programs; assist students in the application process for benefits and completion of eligibility requirements

ยท Report enrollment certification and changes in student status to the VA

ยท Monitor the courses pursued by a student to certify to the VA only those courses that apply to the student's program

ยท Work closely with Financial Aid and the Business Office on students' accounts to ensure students' financial records are accurate; maintain files for all veteran students

ยท Monitor students' conduct and report when a student is suspended or dismissed for unsatisfactory conduct

ยท Supervise veteran and financial aid work-study student(s) as the student employment coordinator, track attendance of student employees, verify monthly timesheets, maintain yearly budget

ยท Assist students with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

ยท Process electronic Institutional Student Information Records (ISIR) and other paperwork necessary for PELL payments

ยท Check grades to monitor financial aid recipients' satisfactory academic progress maintenance and notify recipients about probation/suspension status

ยท Check student status online using National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)

ยท Reprocess Student Aid Reports electronically to CPS

ยท Facilitate workshops on and off campus

ยท Coordinate annual Veteran's Day Program

ยท Respond promptly to inquiries from students, college employees, and customers while maintaining standards of confidentiality and privacy

ยท Maintain confidentiality with FERPA, the College, student records, and any other protected documentation

ยท Assist as back-up for area receptionist, including receiving and directing incoming phone calls, greeting and directing visitors and students, and responding to general questions

ยท Relate relevant and accurate information in-person, electronically, and by telephone for all inquiries

ยท Provide research support for the Dean of Student Services and Director of Financial Aid

ยท Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid

Qualifications

ยท Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in finance, education, or a related field is preferred; an associate degree is required

ยท Strong working knowledge of Colleague system and data processing techniques for automated systems is preferred

ยท Organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy are imperative

ยท Occasional evening work may be required

ยท Frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a telephone, computer, keyboard, and mouse; some standing and walking

ยท Evening and/or weekend work is required
